Going to the dentist might be a scary experience for your child in the first place, but in Likya Dent it does not have to be like that. In our first appointment, our doctors try to create a safe image in children’s minds that the dental office is a safe, welcoming and friendly place that they should never need to be afraid of. Especially with nervous kids, it’s essential to build their trust and make them feel comfortable in the first place.
To build this as Likya Dent we have thought about every little aspect. In our friendly playground, your children can have fun like they are in a park and in our clinics they can enjoy the treatments with their favourite cartoon.
It’s been recommended by BDA( British Dental Association ) that you can take your children to the dentist starting at the age of 1. Rather than later interventions, pediatric dentistry’s main goal is to prevent any oral health problems before they exist and protect child’s oral health.
Starting from the first visit, our main goal is to build children’s confidence and reduce their apprehension so that they can have stress free dental visits for life. To maintain this we need to be in collaboration with parents.
You may treat the visit as a casual event, not a very serious thing.
If the kid is old enough you should inform them before the visit and let them know that the doctors will explain all the procedures before they start.
We recommend you to refrain from some words which might cause stress like “hurt, needle, shot, drill, etc.” Our doctors will explain the procedures to kids with their own words.
Give yourself and your kid enough time for the appointment. This will prevent the rush and the anxiety.
We would like you to accompany your kid for the initial visit. After building the trust we recommend that the kid receives the treatments by oneself, by this way we can build a more transparent relationship with them but if you want to be there, you are always welcome to stay in the treatment room.
The rest is in our professionally equipped, experienced doctors hands.
In the first appointment, our doctors mostly start with introducing the clinic. The kids meet with the staff and take a tour of the clinic so that they can get familiar with the environment. As a follow up the doctors will introduce their instruments which may take place during the treatments. If necessary x-ray radiography will be completed and a detailed treatment plan will be made.
Last but not least our dentists may do cleaning or polishing so that the kids can get accustomed to the noise of the instruments and the feeling. After our first appointment, your kid will get their first Certificate of Bravery with their names on it which accompanied by a toy necklace.
FLUORIDE APPLICATIONS
One of the main goals in pediatric dentistry is to protect oral health and prevent possible problems such as tooth decay before they exist. Fluoride is a compound that helps to prevent tooth decay by making teeth more resistant to acid attacks, strengthen weak parts of the enamel and eliminate the bacteria that causes caries. Although It can be found in many dental products, such as toothpaste, mouth rinses… etc. it may need to be applied by a dentist at various frequencies according to kids’ oral health. After our doctors’ ??? evaluation, they will determine the needed frequency for your kid.
FISSURE SEALANT
If the child is at high risk of producing tooth decay, this preventive method will help to reduce the risk by covering the pits and fissures of chewing surfaces so that food accumulation will be prevented. It only takes a few minutes to apply a sealant on each tooth, and they can last from 3 to 10 years as invisible guards.
This preventive treatment is a great option for children and other patients who are more prone to cavities. Ask about dental sealants during your next appointment!
FILLINGS TO MILK TEETH
Sometimes no matter how much the child brushes its teeth, cavities may occur and they may need a filling. A filling gives back the healthy state of the tooth and its chewing function. There are different kinds of fillings in pediatric dentistry from tooth-coloured composite fillings to colourful solutions. Your children may have their oral health back with a colourful filling according to their unique needs.
Does having a filling really necessary for milk teeth?
Baby teeth are as important as permanent teeth. Cavities are formed because of the existing germs in the mouth and if they are not treated they may cause long term problems, even harming the incoming permanent teeth. The solution is cleaning the infected area and give the tooth’s function back by putting a proper filling.
Is it going to be painful?
Having a filling would not be painful for your child. Depending on the depth of the cavity, our dentists may apply local anaesthesia to numb the area and a topical numbing cream beforehand so that your kid could have their treatment in peace.
ROOT CANAL TREATMENTS TO MILK TEETH
When the germs located in the cavity reach the pulp your kid may respond to that as having spontaneous pain, some swelling around the damaged tooth, sensitivity during chewing or temperature nutrition. In this case, the pulp which is a tissue that contains nerves and blood vessels needs to be removed partially or totally to rescue the baby tooth. In Likya Dent we give pulp therapy / Root canal treatments to children in expert hands to make sure they have a better future…
SPACE MAINTAINERS
Baby teeth are as important as permanent teeth. Sometimes we may lose a baby tooth due to trauma, deep caries, diseases .. etc. Space maintainers are specially designed orthodontic apparel that manage the space from the lost tooth so that misalignments, overcrowding or other orthodontic conditions could be prevented.
In terms of premature tooth loss, even the development of the jawbones may be affected so it is crucial to manage spaces and protect the development of the jaws.
